The museum always shows a large selection of works from its own collection in the splendid museum building created specifically for these artworks in 1915. This part of the museum – the first to be built – forms an unusually harmonious and coherent Gesamtkunstwerk with its blend of the Funen Painters’ richly varied art, Kai Nielsen’s sculptures, Carl Petersen’s colourful architecture, Kaare Klint’s classic furniture and Knud V. Engelhardt’s graphic design. The display of works from the collection changes regularly, new acquisitions are put up, well-known works are temporarily removed to enrich exhibitions at other museums, and lesser-known works join the hang from time to time – all in a continuous flow that ensure vibrant, familiar and new art experiences from one visit to the next.
